In 1862 it became the home of Jose Remigio de la Torre, the youngest son of Spanish-born soldier, Don Jose Joaquin de laTorre, a general under Governor Alvarado and Alcade od Old Monterey. In 1923 Katherine Osborne (Robert Louis Stevenson’s daughter-in-law) purchased the adobe. Local artist, Myron Oliver (1891-1967) lived in Casa de la Torre in the mid-twentieth century. Oliver was the president and founder board member of the Carmel Art Association. |
