Property History
Built around 1851 by the original holder of the land grant, Francisco Pinto. In 1862 it became the home of Jose Remigio de la Torre, the youngest son of Spanish-born soldier, Don Jose Joaquin de laTorre, a general under Governor Alvarado and Alcade od Old Monterey. In 1923 Katherine Osborne (Robert Louis Stevenson’s daughter-in-law) purchased the adobe. Local artist, Myron Oliver (1891-1967) lived in Casa de la Torre in the mid-twentieth century. Oliver was the president and founder board member of the Carmel Art Association.
