Property History

This home was built in 1877 by the Separatists of Zoar as a family residence for the Louis Zimmerman family. Louis served as the Treasurer of the Zoar Society so it became known as The Treasurer's House.

Property Description

This Historic 1877 Zoar Home was once the residence of Louis Zimmerman, Treasurer of the Zoar Society, in the late 1800’s. It is now listed on the National Historic Register as well as the Tuscarawas Heritage Home Association and located in the center of the Historic District of Zoar.

The home boasts 2,528 square feet of living space and features 7 rooms, 3 bedrooms, 1 and ½ baths, 1 foyer with two large hallways and sits on .36 acre of a corner lot. The yard is completely surrounded with a weathered Zoar style wood fence. The home features a second floor laundry and a fully decorated and furnished vaulted ceiling 16 x 20 Wine Cellar.

Original white oak tongue and groove flooring with square nails is found throughout the home. All floor rugs and hand painted canvas floor mats are included, as well as all window treatments.
The home rests on original sandstone foundation and the outside red brick has three courses. It features a brick patio for outside entertaining and brick walkways and driveway. There are two front porches and one rear porch. The utility side of the basement has an outside entrance. The original slate roof has been maintained over the years. The windows are original six over six window panes. All windows have the original wood shutters. There is a full third floor unfinished attic with tongue and groove white oak.
The home features gas heat and central air with two HVAC units. There is a 200 AMP service and copper plumbing. Stainless steel spouting was added within the past 5 years.

The original historic 18 x 32 Wash House building sits to the rear of the home. It features three separate rooms. The laundry room where the Zoarites washed clothes still has the original cast iron wash tubs embedded in a brick fireplace. The middle room has a ‘his’ and ‘her’ privy and the other room is a workshop with an original workbench and a side room used as a Garden Shed.
In 2005 a heated Carriage House was built to the rear of the property with three large car bays, workshop area and second floor storage. This was built in the same style as the original outbuilding and includes original Zoar windows from another home in Zoar.

Purchase price includes the following appliances: Washer, Dryer, Stainless Steel Side by side Refrigerator/Freezer, Gas Stove with 2 Ovens and a vented Microwave Combo. The Family Room includes a Jotul Wood-burning Stove. A new brick chimney was replaced to accommodate the wood burner.

Purchase price also includes 25 pieces of original Zoar furniture and Zoar related artifacts in addition to many separate antique furniture pieces.

Additional Notes

This is a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of history furnished with Zoar Artifacts and other antique furniture in addition to having your own vaulted ceiled Wine Cellar. The historic outbuilding is suitable for a small business.
