Property History
The Benjamin Green house is located in the Parsippany Troy Hills Historic District. The two-story clapboard Greek Revival/Italianate was built in two sections. The original one story section was built ca.1820, consisting of a single room with fireplace; stairs behind the chimney led to the original sleeping loft. The large two story addition was added ca.1870 with wide entry hallway, two parlors, three bedrooms. The 19th Century barn has 3 stalls, center and side areas and a hay loft.
An 1861 deed lists Benjamin Green and his wife Hannah as the owners of a sawmill and cotton mill located across South Beverwyck Road in Troy Industrial Village. The first owners of the property were William B. Delaplain (prior to 1800); Jacob Green, the First Minister of the Parsippany Presbyterian Church (1801), Benjamin Green (1833-ca.1888) and his son Chester F. Green, 1896.
