Original portion of house built by Billy Hoxley. It was purchased and extensively remodeled in 1837 by Dr. Fielding Ficklen who combined the original structure with his plantation house moved from 7 miles away by ox cart.
Verena Davis briefly stayed at Holly Court while she waited for her husband Jefferson Davis (president of the Confederacy) who was fleeing capture by Union Forces.
The Confederacy was dissolved in Washington, GA in 1865. There remain rumors that the Confederate treasury remains buried somewhere near Washington.

Two Federal plain style homes are combined. There are 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms plus 2 half baths. Formal rooms include a ladies and gentlemen's parlor, a smaller parlor and a large dining room that seats 20 with additional tables. Gleaming original heart pine floors throughout except for bathrooms and a newer addition added around 1960. Ten foot ceilings with triple crown molding throughout. Antique and reproduction crystal and brass chandeliers as well as additional period lighting. Seven fireplaces have been restored and converted to gas.
The 1.83 lot is extensively landscaped with many types of mature trees and extensive holly, camellia and rose bushes as well as a formal garden, grape arbor and 3 outbuildings including a large dove cote and carriage house. There is a very large front porch and side patio and outdoor lighting has been updated. The property is largely fenced.
