Agent Profile
William Means Real Estate, LLC  is one of the oldest real estate companies in Charleston. William Means founded the company in 1933, specializing in the sale of plantations.  When William Means passed away in 1957 his son-in-law, W. Elliott Hutson, purchased the real estate division.  In 1985 Helen Lyles Geer joined Mr. Hutson as a partner. She took over as owner and Broker-in-Charge in 1999 and William Means has operated under her leadership ever since.

Integrity, professionalism, excellent negotiating skills and knowledge are the cornerstones of our business. We specialize in the sale of historic homes, plantations and estates, and exclusive properties throughout the Lowcountry. Our agents are leading professionals in the field, bringing extensive, in-depth knowledge of the region, its neighborhoods, architecture, history, businesses and real estate. Our personal commitment to our clients, willingness to innovate, and constant pursuit of excellence make us a strong leader in the Charleston community.

In 1997 William Means Real Estate became an exclusive affiliate for Christie’s International Real Estate. This partnership affirmed our long-standing record of first-rate service and extended our reach to luxury markets all over the world.

In 2006, we opened an office East of the Cooper in order to better serve our clients buying and selling homes in Mount Pleasant and on Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. In 2009, William Means added two more exciting projects to its East Cooper portfolio. First, we extended our representation of fine homes in the award-winning I’On neighborhood by teaming up with I’On Realty to enhance sales and marketing services for lot and home listings. William Means also became the official sales agency for Hibben at Belle Hall.

William Means maintains offices in two locations: the 41 Broad Street office and East of the Cooper within the I’On neighborhood. William Means also has agents on duty daily in the Hibben Information Center. Please stop by to learn more about William Means and to tour our homes.
