The property is an example of Plantation Plain style architecture. It is a two over two with a central hall and fireplaces on each end and a double veranda. The original shed rooms have been replaced by a modern kitchen. The floors are wood pegged. The property was built by Michael Steele, an early Dekalb County Georgia pioneer. The original property was 360 acres and the owners grew crops but not cotton. The property stayed in the Steele family until 1938 when Cully Cobb and his wife purchased it. Mr. Cobb was an recognized authority on agriculture and farmhouse economics. He and his wife purchased the house and 87 acres on which to raise grain and livestock according to regional farming methods. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cobb had been editors of the "Southern Ruralist" and later Mr. Cobb headed the very successful "Ruralist Press". Emory University acquired the property in the 1970's. The current owners purchased the property in 1988.

The Steele-Cobb House is a surviving example of a Plantation Plain style home. It is a two over two with a central hall and fireplaces on the ends. This home is shingle with double veranda. It features flush molding which was characteristic of fine building styles in 17th and 18th century England. It sits on 2.5 acres of fenced grounds with a duplex cottage on the back of the property. It has a large kitchen, master suite with fireplace and screened porch on which the original well pump is located. The floors are pegged wood and the home has 4 fireplaces. The kitchen is large with a bay window overlooking the grounds. There is a paneled den off of the spacious living room and a sunroom which overlooks a large koi pond. This is a one of a kind property for the discerning, history loving buyer.
