Kelly Calhoun is a native of the Gulf Coast and grew up among the major oil towns of the region. Born in Lafayette of Cajun and French and Spanish Creole descent, Kelly has lived in Houston, Biloxi, Shreveport and Dallas. In 2015, she moved to her family’s home in New Orleans to pursue a Master of Preservation Studies degree from Tulane University, her family’s alma mater. She studied architectural history, preservation technology and preservation economics – a topic in which she saw could be tremendous value to the public.
In 2017, she graduated with honors and formed Calhoun Preservation, LLC a historic preservation consulting firm that specializes in Historic Tax Credits, National Register nominations and historic district surveys. She has worked clients on the private, local and state levels in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. Through these projects, she began working with Peter Patout, a historic house specialist and realtor in the French Quarter, and her passion for real estate took off. Realizing the effects of successfully combining historic preservation and real estate, she became a licensed realtor in 2018.
Being a “Preservation Agent” gives Kelly a completely unique perspective on historic buildings, which is an asset to her clients in both industries. She is able to factor real estate trends, economic incentives, cultural heritage and historic preservation into one passionate career. Kelly loves her life as both a historic preservation consultant and realtor, and is known for always saying yes to a soirée! She is involved in numerous non-profit organizations dedicated to the history, architecture and heritage of the region.
